'failure or success of a film cannot be attached to one actor'
India, June 17 -- P
atralekhaa has been in one of the busiest phases of her career, with three releases in the past year alone. While she found success on OTT, her recent big-screen outing Phule didn't quite make a splash at the box office. But she remains unfazed.
"If you do your job well and you're good at it, people understand that you can't tie a film's failure or success to a single actor. That's why so many actors remain relevant and continue working - regardless of box office numbers," she says.
She acknowledges that the industry is going through a slow spell: "Yes, maybe the numbers aren't doubling, and we aren't getting huge, big-budget hits. But I don't think any of us actors are chasing a Rs.200-crore film. We're just grateful for the work. You can't predict a film's fate. I'm happy I'm getting opportunities because I truly love what I do."
The actor credits much of her current momentum to OTT platforms. "Earlier, films were limiting - you either did films or serials, and even then, there was a set prototype for film actors. My career began with Citylights (2014), which thankfully didn't demand that mould. But those chances were rare."
She adds, "The OTT boom changed everything. Filmmakers such as Hansal Mehta (Scam 1992) and Anubhav Sinha (IC814) started writing real characters, looking for actors who fit those parts - not just names. OTT has been a blessing, not just for me but for many of us."
Though she never felt bitter about missed opportunities, Patralekhaa notes a shift in perception today: "There's a kind of love I'm receiving now - from directors, producers, and my peers- who earlier couldn't picture me in certain roles. That feels special."
Her biggest supporter through it all? Husband Rajkummar Rao. While Patralekhaa has been collecting accolades, Raj has remained a steady and supportive presence. "When I step back and look at it, what he's doing feels incredibly heartwarming. I feel blessed. But within our relationship, it's just who we are. We're best friends before anything else, and we've always been each other's biggest cheerleaders. From the outside it might seem extraordinary, but to us - it's just how we've always been. That's our partnership," she ends....
