Sri Lanka, March 6 -- A resolution has been passed at the Soranatota Pradeshiya Sabha to gazette and conserve the Badulla - Narangala Kanda forest area.

Many of its members have expressed their support for the resolution, which was passed unanimously. Accordingly, the proposal will be forwarded to the Badulla District Coordinating Committee in the future.

A youth who was on a picnic at Narangala Kanda recently fell down a precipice and died.

It is also reported that the water catchment areas at the foot of the mountain are being destroyed due to the influx of tourists. Locals say there is a lot of garbage on the top of the hill, including polythene plastic, glass bottles and tins.
