Sri Lanka, Oct. 15 -- The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) has initiated a new methodology to determine precipitation thresholds that cause regional landslides.

The National Building Research Organization stated that rainfall limits for landslides are a common criterion for the entire country at present. However, it is not practical to apply this criterion in uniformity to all districts. Landslide warnings are issued at present - to be on alert if a rainfall of 75mm is received, to be ready to evacuate in case of 100mm of rainfall, and to evacuate if there is over 150mm of rainfall.
