Sri Lanka, Jan. 17 -- A man who started a 24 hour fast by climbing a 200 feet high telephone tower in the Udugampola area in Gampaha demanding the repatriation of his wife who is abroad ended the action this afternoon (17).

The man, a resident of Pitipana, Negombo, said that his wife, who was employed in Jordan, was detained in a Jordanian prison for nine months.

However, the Hiru correspondent said that he had given up his fast and promised to inform Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga about the issue with the intervention of the locals, the police and the media.
