Sri Lanka, Feb. 2 -- The procurement of the maize crop from farmers for this season was initiated yesterday (01) at the government warehouse complex in Anuradhapura's Galenbidunwewa. The Department of Agriculture has set the purchase price at 140 rupees per kilogram.

Approximately 80,000 acres of maize have been cultivated across the island during the high season, with an expected harvest of 350,000 metric tons. The commencement of maize procurement is a crucial step in supporting farmers and ensuring a fair return for their efforts in cultivating the crop.
