Jaipur, April 19 -- Two contract labourers have died after inhaling toxic gas while cleaning a sewer tank in Jaipur's Jhotwara zone, police said on Saturday. The Supreme Court mandates a complete ban on manual scavenging and sewer cleaning without adequate protective gear and safety measures. Kardhani police station house officer, Sawai Singh, said, "The incident took place on Friday evening in the 200-Feet Road locality under the Jhotwara zone. Both deceased were contract labourers tasked with cleaning the sewage tank." The deceased were identified as Rambabu and Ajay, both Jaipur residents, police said.
