Silchar, April 26 -- Two undertrial prisoners were found dead in two cells in Assam's Nagaon district on Saturday, officials said, adding that authorities have ordered a probe into the incidents.
The incidents were reported from Nagaon Central Jail and Nagaon Special Jail, both within the same premises but functioning under separate administrations, officials said.
According to jail officials, Rup Singh Dera, an undertrial accused in a murder case, was found dead during a morning inspection inside Nagaon Special Jail.
In a separate incident, Jitumoni Konwar, an undertrial prisoner and a resident of Raha, was found lying unresponsive on his bed at Nagaon Central Jail during routine checks.
