Two children dead in fire at Lucknow slum
LUCKNOW, April 17 -- Two children, one aged two years and the second six months, died in a massive fire that gutted a slum cluster in the Vikas Nagar area in Lucknow, police said on Thursday.
The fire, which started on Wednesday evening in the slum located near the Ring Road, rapidly engulfed about 280 shanties and reduced belongings to ashes. Around 1,000 people, mostly domestic workers and daily wage earners, were left homeless, officials said.
Police said the exact cause of the fire is being ascertained.
