Kolkata, March 26 -- The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal has moved the Election Commission seeking the removal of a police observer and a returning officer (RO) posted by the poll panel, claiming that they have links with BJP leaders. In its letter to the Chief Election Commissioner and the state's Chief Electoral Officer, the TMC has alleged that Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Jayant Kant, who has been appointed as a police observer by the EC in Malda district in West Bengal ahead of the assembly elections, is married to Smriti Paswan, a Bharatiya Janata Party leader in Bihar.
