Trail of fake Mounjaro leads to Alibaba vendors
New Delhi, April 21 -- Indian drug regulators seized more than 260 suspected counterfeit pens of Eli Lilly's obesity and diabetes drug Mounjaro and said the main accused had ordered raw materials from vendors on Chinese e-commerce platform Alibaba.
Officials from Haryana on Saturday recovered the suspected fake pens from a vehicle on the outskirts of New Delhi and arrested two people accused of making and selling the drugs, the Haryana Food and Drug Control Administration said in a statement.
India's booming obesity market, flush with branded products such as Mounjaro and Danish drugmaker Novo Nordisk's weight-loss drugs, as well as several cheaper generic alternatives, is expected to be worth Rs.80 billion ($859.38 million) by 2030.
