Mumbai, Nov. 23 -- The Maharashtra government has sent a proposal to the Centre, seeking an extension for chief secretary Sitaram Kunte for three months. Kunte, who is set to retire on November 30, was appointed to the post on February 28. The Centre is expected to decide on the same in a couple of days.

Manukumar Srivastava, additional chief secretary (ACS), home, Sujata Saunik, ACS, general administration department, Manoj Saunik, ACS, finance, are the frontrunners for the top post. Srivastava is a 1986 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, while Sauniks are from the 1987 batch.
