New Delhi, Jan. 26 -- The Supreme Court on Thursday sought the Union government's response to an application filed by cash-strapped Kerala seeking urgent order in its suit requesting for a large sum of money to "avert the impending grave financial crisis", even as the Centre said there was "no urgency" as the state government was trying to "mask" its failure by filing a suit.

"They [Kerala] are seeking an urgent order. It will be better if the Centre files its response to it," a bench of justices Surya Kant and KV Viswanathan said, and posted the matter to February 13. "Even if the application is to be dismissed, the response of the Centre will be necessary."
