Row over vande mataram at vijay swearing-in event
CHENNAI, May 11 -- Political parties including the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Left Sunday took pot shots as Vande Mataram was played during the swearing-in ceremony of TVK president C Joseph Vijay.
A group of women sang the National Song before Tamil Nadu governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath to Vijay. Vande Mataram was followed by the National Anthem and the traditional, 'Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu'.
DMK leader and former Union minister A Raja slammed the Centre saying, "...I am able to realise what the dream of the Vande Mataram song...is to make Muslims second-class citizes and declare this nation as a 'Hindu Rashtra."
