New Delhi, Nov. 4 -- The Supreme Court has asked the Indian Army to conduct a fresh exercise within a fortnight to reconsider the case of nearly 136 women officers lined up for promotion.

Women officers in the Army were granted permanent commission in early 2020 following an SC verdict. In a plea filed last year, the women officers complained that the special selection board-3 that empanels officers as Colonel had not met for 18 months despite the SC, by a subsequent decision in March 2021, directing the Army to grant all consequential benefits, including promotion and financial benefits, to the women permanent commission officers in 3 months.
