New Delhi/Chennai, May 6 -- Tamil Nadu governor Rajendra Arlekar said on Tuesday that actor-turned-politician Vijay had sought time to claim power even as parties rushed to offer support to his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
Congress leader KC Venugopal said Vijay asked for the party's support. The state unit, which had to make the call, decided to back Vijay, people familiar with the matter said. AIADMK leader Leema Rose Martin said talks were ongoing between her party and TVK. CPI(M) general secretary MA Baby said his party might extend "creative critical appreciation" to the new government.
But the Congress's overtures angered its 22-year-old ally DMK, with party spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai calling the national party a "backstabber...
