India, Feb. 10 -- Bihar's Bhojpur police on Thursday arrested the main accused from Assam for the murder of a professor couple in Arrah district, officials said.

The arrested person is said to be an old acquaintance of the couple.

Mahendra Prasad Singh was former dean of students' welfare of Veer Kunwar Singh university and former head of department of political science of VKSU while his wife Pushpa Singh was former head of department of psychology department of MM Mahila college who later moved on to the PG department of VKSU.

The accused admitted to his crime and said he killed them after he failed to get his money back.

He told police that he met the professor at a hotel in Patna where he was working as a staff.
