Navy to induct frigate Taragiri on March 14
NEW DELHI, March 4 -- The Indian Navy will commission its latest indigenous stealth frigate, Taragiri, on March 14, with the induction further strengthening the navy's ability to secure the country's maritime interests in the vast Indian Ocean region where China is seeking to expand its footprint, officials aware of the matter said on Tuesday.
The commissioning ceremony will take place in Visakhapatnam, they added. The navy took delivery of Taragiri, the fourth Nilgiri-class stealth frigate under Project 17A, from Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) last November. The seven-ship P-17A is worth around Rs.45,000 crore.
