manipur govt to shut 11 camps in kakching distt
IMPHAL, March 31 -- Manipur government has ordered the closure of 11 relief camps in Kakching district from Tuesday, citing improved law-and-order in the areas where the internally displaced persons (IDPs) living in these camps hailed from.
The move will enable thousands of IDPs to return home since the unrest that started in 2023 and claimed over 260 lives.
The step was taken in view of the resettlement campaign undertaken by the district administration in the Kakching sub-division, particularly for IDPs from Sugnu, Wapokpi, Tengjang and Serou area under Kakching district, where law and order situation has improved, the government order stated.
