India, March 16 -- Senior Samjwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan on Friday announced the Rampur unit of the party had decided to boycott the Lok Sabha election in his home district.

"The Rampur unit of the party has decided not to contest the election and it has been also conveyed in writing to the party's national president (Akhilesh Yadav)," Khan said in a hurriedly called press conference in Rampur.

Blaming the BJP for the decision, Khan said: "Despite that fact that barely a month is left for elections, the SIT is camping in Rampur and threatening people.
