Greater Noida, Sept. 12 -- The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D) and the Greater Noida authority on Wednesday began collecting details of unauthorised buildings in Shahberi village to identify those that were unsafe.

This marks another phase of the Uttar Pradesh government's audit of the encroached space on the Yamuna floodplains where the village is located. Since the collapse of the twin buildings last year in July that killed nine persons, the government moved to identify and demolish illegal buildings in the village.

The authority had identified 426 unauthorised structures constructed by builders, 1,023 buildings constructed without permission by individual plot owners and five commercial buildings. When the authority move...
