HC restrains CCPA from coercive action against Meta
New Delhi, March 26 -- The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) not to take coercive action against Meta Platforms over listings on Facebook Marketplace that require statutory approvals, without first giving the platform a hearing.
A bench of Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav said the platform could not be penalised on the basis of "vague or omnibus directions".
The order came while hearing Meta's plea against the CCPA's January 1 order, which imposed a Rs.10 lakh penalty for allegedly allowing listings of walkie-talkies without mandatory disclosures, in violation of consumer and IT rules.
