Gurugram, Jan. 11 -- After being on the run for 14 days, suspended police officer Vishal Kumar, who is an accused in a Rs.57-lakh graft case and the illegal detention of a call centre owner, surrendered before a court on Monday. He was handed over to the Haryana State Vigilance Bureau for a seven-day custodial interrogation.

"The police remand is required in order to probe the larger conspiracy between accused Vishal Kumar and his accomplice, head constable Amit Kumar," said senior officer of Haryana State Vigilance Bureau on condition of anonymity.

The officer said that Kumar had illegally detained a call centre owner, assaulted him and extorted Rs.57 lakh. He was demanding Rs.10 lakh more.
