NEW DELHI, April 13 -- Starting the process to equip the Indian Air Force with new fighter jets, the defence ministry has issued a tender to state-run plane maker HAL for the proposed acquisition of 97 light combat aircraft (LCA Mk-1A) to strengthen IAF's capabilities at a time it is grappling with a shortage of fighter squadrons, officials said on Friday.
