New Delhi, Dec. 11 -- Convent of Jesus and Mary, New Delhi concluded its year-long centenary celebrations over a period of two days at the school. Sister Monica Joseph RJM, mother general of the congregation of Jesus and Mary was the chief guest on the first day, while on the second day, Anurag Tripathi, secretary of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) was the chief guest and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, an alumnus of the school, was the guest of honour. The closing ceremony paid tribute to the school's foundress, mother Saint Claudine Thevenet's work for orphans with a musical 'Oliver,' an adaption of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. Over 450 students helped put together the centenary celebration. Anurag Tripathi said, "CBSE assessment and evaluation shall undergo a complete change by the year 2023 allowing creative and innovative thinking." Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who attended the event with her daughter, Miraya Vadra, said, "I have come back to the school after many years, since I think, 31 October 1984. I am very happy to see my old Principal Sr.Raphael Reis. It is very vivid for me. I had a lot of fun and made some of my best friends here." Sister Gracy Paul, the principal said, "Many things have changed in this institution, in these 100 years, but what remains constant is our history of gratitude." The centenary closing ceremony honoured notable alumni such as late Sheila Dikshit, the longest-serving female chief minister and Aung San Suu Kyi, State Counsellor of Myanmar and Nobel Peace Prize laureate among many others.
