India, Aug. 14 -- Dulon Das, 50, whose family came to Silchar in Assam from Bangladesh's Sylhet in 1988, has become the first person to get Indian Citizenship under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in the northeastern state. He said he received a message from the Union home ministry on Tuesday about his citizenship. Das added he was asked to visit Guwahati's Regional Passport Office to collect his citizenship certificate.
Das applied for Indian citizenship in April after the CAA rules were notified over four years after the passage of the law. His family came to Assam in 1988 after multiple attacks.
