Bhopal, March 22 -- The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will begin on Friday a scientific survey of Bhojshala, a protected 11th-century monument in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district, officials on Thursday said, as the local administration put in place security measures to provide safe access to the site amid questions over its religious character.

While Hindus consider Bhojshala to be a temple dedicated to Vagdevi (Goddess Saraswati), Muslims call it Kamal Maula Mosque. According to ASI ADG Alok Tripathi, the team will reach the contentious site on Friday and will aim to complete the exercise within six weeks.
