New Delhi, Feb. 6 -- The Supreme Court on Monday exercised its rare constitutional powers to unite a man, convicted for raping a minor in 2014, with the survivor who later married him and have two children with him. The court ordered the release of the convict, taking it as a "peculiar" case.

The convict Sankar, who filed the petition was accused of raping a 14-year-old girl who was known to him. He was tried under the protection of children from sexual offences (Pocso) Act and sentenced by a trial court on February 11, 2018 to 20 years rigorous imprisonment and Rs.2 lakh fine.
