Airlines must offer 60% seats without extra fees
New Delhi, March 19 -- Airlines must allocate 60% of seats on a flight without additional selection charges while ensuring that passengers on the same booking are grouped together, the civil aviation ministry said on Wednesday in a stack of directions aimed at bulking up passenger rights and curbing arbitrary carrier practices.
Orders that cement these directions will be issued on Thursday, people aware of the matter said.
"To further strengthen passenger convenience, transparency and uniformity of practices across airlines, the Ministry has issued directions through the DGCA... a minimum of 60% of seats on any flight to be allocated free of charge to ensure fair access."
