5 jailed for life in 2016 kerala lynching case
Malappuram(Kerala), Feb. 21 -- A local court on Friday sentenced five people to life imprisonment for lynching a 42-year-old man in 2016 in a suspected moral policing incident in Mankada.
The five, convicted and sentenced by the additional district and sessions court, have been identified as Abdul Nazar, Sharafudheen, Suhail, Abdul Gafoora and Sakkeer Hussain.
The accused were convicted on February 17 on charges including rioting, unlawful assembly, rioting with a deadly weapon, house-trespass and murder.
Additionally, Suhail and Hussain have been found guilty for destruction of evidence too.
The court imposed a fine of Rs.85,000 on the accused and said if the amount was recovered from them, it should be given to the victim's legal heirs.
