Bhubaneswar, May 6 -- Three workers suffocated to death late on Monday night at a sponge iron plant in Odisha's Angul district during maintenance work, in what police suspect was a toxic gas leak, officers said. According to the police, six workers were cleaning a pipe carrying sponge iron when three fell ill. "They are suspected to have inhaled toxic fumes. The three died on the way to the hospital," said Biswambar Pradhan, inspector-in-charge of Nisha police station. Police identified the victims as Mangal Majhi (34), Pintu Kumar (35) and Sridhar Bagei (36) and launched a probe to determine the incident's cause.
