New Delhi, April 16 -- "It seems you have got the powers now," the Supreme Court said on Tuesday, a day after the Election Commission finally acted against hate speeches in the run up to the Lok Sabha elections and barred several leaders from campaigning.
"It seems you have got the powers now .EC has woken up now," Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi remarked while taking up a PIL related to hate speeches.
The commission on Monday barred Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from campaigning for 72 hours and Mayawati, for 48 hours starting April 16. Gag orders were also imposed on BJP leader Maneka Gandhi and SP's Azam Khan.
