Goa, Dec. 21 -- The Zilla Panchayat elections in Goa are being widely viewed as a crucial semifinal ahead of the Goa Assembly elections scheduled for 2027. Both major political parties, the BJP and the Congress, have expressed confidence in securing victories and forming ruling panels in North and South Goa.

While the BJP is banking on the strength of its organisational network and grassroots machinery, the Congress is hoping to capitalise on what it describes as a breakdown of law and order under the BJP-led government. The outcome is expected to offer key insights into the public mood ahead of the Assembly polls. Counting of ballots for the Zilla Panchayat elections is scheduled to take place on December 22.
