India, Jan. 4 -- A 25-year-old woman and her infant daughter allegedly drowned in a well in Jharkhand's Deoghar district, police said on Sunday. The incident occurred in Padmapur village.

The deceased were identified as Gudiya Devi and her daughter Pihu. Their bodies were recovered on Saturday after villagers alerted the authorities, police said.

Sadar SDPO Ashok Singh said the bodies were sent to Sadar Hospital in Deoghar for post-mortem examination. "We have recovered the bodies of the victims and sent them for post-mortem. An investigation into the matter is underway," he said, adding that the probe is being conducted based on allegations made by the woman's maternal family.
