Goa, March 13 -- The West Bengal government has decided to prohibit Holi celebrations at the well-known Sonajhuri Haat in Santiniketan, located in the Birbhum district, due to concerns about potential harm to the local greenery, an official announced on Wednesday.

Sonajhuri Haat is situated close to the Visva Bharati campus, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Bolpur Divisional Forest Officer Rahul Kumar mentioned that several banners have been displayed in the area, urging visitors-many of whom may be international and domestic tourists-not to park their vehicles or partake in the festival of colors there. He also requested that attendees refrain from recording videos of the Holi celebrations.
