Goa, Jan. 25 -- Veteran journalist and acclaimed author Mark Tully passed away at a private hospital in Delhi on Sunday, his close friend confirmed. He was 90.
Tully, who had been unwell for some time, was admitted to Max Hospital in Saket last week. "Mark passed away this afternoon at Max Hospital Saket," said Satish Jacob, a close friend and fellow journalist.
Born in Calcutta on October 24, 1935, Tully served as the BBC's New Delhi bureau chief for 22 years. He was also the presenter of BBC Radio 4's programme Something Understood and authored notable books including No Full Stops in India, India in Slow Motion, and The Heart of India.
He was knighted in 2002 and received the Padma Bhushan in 2005.
