Goa, Oct. 7 -- A controversy erupted in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, after Shama Parveen, a resident of Biribari village, alleged that a doctor at the district women's hospital refused to treat her on religious grounds. The hospital authorities denied the claim, stating that the doctor examined her on the night of September 30, when she was admitted for delivery.
A video circulated on social media showed Parveen claiming the doctor said, "I will not treat a Muslim woman," and asked her family to seek care elsewhere. The Chief Medical Superintendent, Dr Mahendra Gupta, confirmed that the doctor denied the allegations, and an inquiry is ongoing.
