Goa, July 11 -- Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday declared that the United States will impose a 35% tariff on imports from Canada, effective August 1, marking a major escalation in his trade agenda. The announcement was made through a letter addressed to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, shared on Trump's social media platform.

Trump warned that the tariff rate could increase further if Canada retaliates. He also revealed plans to implement blanket tariffs of 15% to 20% on imports from most other U.S. trade partners.
