India, Feb. 1 -- A 12-year-old boy from Maharashtra's Thane district died weeks after being bitten by a stray dog, triggering allegations of negligence at government hospitals. The incident occurred in Bhiwandi on January 10, when the child was bitten and taken to the state-run IGM Hospital, where he was administered anti-rabies and tetanus injections, hospital officials said. He was later referred to Thane Civil Hospital before being brought back to Bhiwandi and discharged. However, his condition worsened after a few weeks.
