Goa, Oct. 9 -- Ranganathan Govindan, owner of Tamil Nadu-based Sresan Pharmaceuticals, has been arrested in connection with the adulterated Coldrif cough syrup linked to the deaths of dozens of children across multiple states. Madhya Pradesh police took him into custody late last night in Chennai as investigations continue into one of India's most shocking drug scandals.

Authorities launched a manhunt for Govindan following reports that at least 20 children in Madhya Pradesh died after consuming the poisonous syrup. Additional deaths linked to Coldrif have also been reported in Rajasthan. The children reportedly suffered severe kidney infections after taking the contaminated medicine.
