Consecutive defeats to Zimbabwe men's cricket team and Sri Lanka men's cricket team left Australia needing other results to stay alive in the tournament.
Australia required Zimbabwe to lose to Ireland, but the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled, handing Zimbabwe the crucial point needed to secure a top-two finish.
