India, Feb. 18 -- The Deputy Collector of Salcete has ordered the reopening of the Sunni Gulistan Masjid in Fatorda through a directive issued on February 17.

The decision follows representations submitted by the masjid committee, which assured the authorities that peace and harmony would be maintained, particularly in view of the forthcoming Ramadan period.

The masjid had earlier been closed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita after concerns were raised regarding law and order. After reviewing the assurances and the prevailing situation, the Deputy Collector directed that the place of worship be reopened.
