Goa, Jan. 11 -- A case of serious medical negligence was reported from Indore in Madhya Pradesh, where a one-and-a-half-month-old infant suffered a grave injury inside a government hospital. The baby, admitted to Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital's New Chest Ward for pneumonia treatment on December 24, had his thumb accidentally severed while a nurse was removing an intravenous catheter on Wednesday.

According to the infant's mother, Anjubai, a resident of Betma, swelling was noticed on the baby's hand, following which a nursing officer was called. While cutting the tape holding the IV line with scissors, the nurse mistakenly cut through the child's thumb, triggering panic among the family and hospital staff.
