Goa, Nov. 17 -- Lots is going on with India's neighbour as Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal on Monday sentenced ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death after finding her guilty of ordering a deadly crackdown on a student-led uprising last year.
Judge Golam Mortuza Mozumder said Hasina was "found guilty on three counts", including incitement, issuing an order to kill, and failing to prevent atrocities. "We have decided to inflict her with only one sentence, the sentence of death," he announced in a packed Dhaka courtroom.
The verdict comes just months before national elections scheduled for early February. With the Awami League barred from contesting, fears of fresh unrest have intensified.
