Goa, Dec. 6 -- Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Friday introduced a private member's bill in the Lok Sabha seeking to criminalise marital rape, urging India to uphold constitutional values and transition from the principle of "no means no" to "only yes means yes."
Tharoor said the proposed amendment to the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) aims to remove the marital rape exception and affirm that marriage cannot override a woman's right to consent. He described the reform as an urgent and necessary step to safeguard bodily autonomy and dignity for women within marriage.
