Goa, Nov. 1 -- Thieves broke into the Valpoi Post Office on Friday night and decamped with nearly Rs.1 lakh in cash from a post locker, police said.

The incident came to light on Saturday morning when staff arrived and found the locker broken open. A complaint was subsequently lodged with the Valpoi Police Station, which has launched an investigation to trace the culprits.

Police have collected fingerprints and CCTV footage from the area to identify those involved. Preliminary reports suggest that the thieves may have entered the premises after midnight and targeted the locker containing postal funds.

Authorities said efforts are underway to track the stolen money and nab the accused at the earliest.
