Goa, May 20 -- Robert Fernandes has been elected unopposed as the Sarpanch of Mandrem, following the recent resignation of former Sarpanch Rajesh Mandrekar. The election for the post was held today, with Fernandes being the only candidate to file a nomination.
With no other contenders stepping forward, Fernandes was officially declared elected without a contest. The development brings a smooth transition in leadership at the Mandrem Village Panchayat.
The position had been left vacant after Mandrekar stepped down, prompting the need for a fresh election to fill the role. Fernandes will now take charge as the head of the panchayat, and is expected to focus on continuing local development initiatives and addressing community concerns.
