Goa, Jan. 7 -- Taking suo motu cognisance of the death of a migrant worker in police custody, the Goa Human Rights Commis-sion (GHRC) issued notices to the South Goa Collector and the Superintendent of Police (SP) South, asking them to inquire into the matter and to submit their re-ports latest by March 10, 2026.

Earlier, the two-member Com-mission perused a letter dated 29/12/2025 received from the South Goa Collector informing about the custodial/institution-al death of Debanand Sana from Kolkata in the police custody.

But in order to rule out any foul play in the death of 34-year-old Sana, the Commission took suo motu cognisance of the same and issued notices to the South Goa District Magistrate and the SP South.
