The unmistakable imprint of history in the (re)making could be felt all around us at the opening of the epic retrospective Krishen Khanna at 100: The Last Progressive at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Mumbai earlier this week. It's the first time any government institution has undertaken anything on this scale for any member of the Progressive Artists Group, which burst forth so consequentially - and indeed controversially - from these same city streets in the cusp of Independence, and it was rather moving to see three of the artists' grandchildren come together for the momentous occasion.
