Mapusa, June 4 -- Pernem and Bardez taluka received heavy rains along with strong winds that kept the fire personnel on their toes throughout the day on Wednesday. The coastal belt in particular bore the brunt of the attack with many trees being uprooted and collapsing on houses, roads and electric poles.
The Pilerne fire station received 11 emergency calls, the Mapusa fire station, received around 17 and the Pernem file station received 10 calls. Emergency calls were received from Calangute, Porvorim, Aldona, Duler, Mapusa, Anjuna, Ibrampur, Paliem and Pernem. Parts of houses and sheds were damaged by tree falls, which causes heavy losses to the owners. No casualties were reported.
