DODAMARG, March 13 -- In a major victory to the villagers from Shirange and Khanyale, Dodamarg, Sindhudurg's District Collector, Anil Patil, has issued a letter ordering the temporary halt to stone quarrying and crushing units. The villagers had been protesting for the last 7 days to stop the quarrying and crushing, since it posed danger to the dam and for fear of their villages getting flooded.
Environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar commended the villagers' efforts, stating that the Government of Maharashtra should issue a permanent stoppage to the illegal activities.
